South Dakota State shocked Oklahoma State in the series opener on Friday but that would be the only victory they experienced over the weekend. After weather forced the two teams to play two on Sunday, the Cowboys jumped on the Jackrabbits early in both contests.
Jensen Elliott picked up his third win of the season (3-0) off the aid of four OSU runs through the first four innings. He was responsible for all three of the Jacks runs but also struck out seven batters before giving way to Blake Battenfield for his third save of the year.
Oklahoma State handed Ryan Froom his first loss of the season by roughing him up for four runs and seven hits in 3.1 innings. Garrett McCain recorded three hits, scoring once and driving in a run, and four other batters recorded an RBI, to help pace OSU’s offense in the 6-3 win.
The Cowboys posted four runs in the first two innings of the second game, in route to an 8-3 win. Once again it was McCain sparking the offense with a three hit performance that resulted in two runs scored and three more RBI.
OSU burned through seven pitchers in the second game with sophomore Carson Teel picking up his second win of the season.
