The Oklahoma Sooners went into Big 12 play this weekend with the same tenacity they showed in the non-conference portion of their schedule and the result was a series victory over the Baylor Bears in Waco.

Powered by Steele Walker and Blake Brewster, the #10-ranked Sooners routed the Bears 11-3 in the opener on Friday night. Walker and Brewster both went yard in the sixth inning to help Oklahoma turn a 3-1 deficit into a 5-3 lead. OU wouldn’t look back after that point and even added six more runs to their tally.

The 14th ranked Bears struck back with a vengeance on Saturday by blanking Oklahoma 7-0 to force a Sunday rubber-match. The Sooners committed two errors on the day and, despite recording eight hits, couldn’t manage to cross home plate.

Sunday brought about Oklahoma’s opportunity to record a shutout. Kyle Mendenhall delivered a 3-run home run in the top of the second, to produce the offense, and Nathan Wiles tossed his way to victory, improving his season record to 4-1, with JB Olson also picking up his sixth save of the year.

The Sooners are back home in Norman this weekend to host Texas Tech. The Red Raiders currently sit at the to of the conference standings.
