Oklahoma offered 3-star Independence Community College defensive tackle Emmit Gooden this week and he’s loving the love from the Sooners. “My top three schools right now are OU, Memphis and Georgia,” Gooden said to 247Sports. Meaning, Oklahoma is fresh in on him and already making headway.
Last season Gooden (6-4/310) recorded 55 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 4 sacks and 2 forced fumbles at Independence. Coming out of high school he held offers from LSU, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt before taking the JUCO route and now his offer list includes nine schools, including Alabama and USC.
Defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux and defensive coordinator Mike Stoops are teaming up to recruit Gooden as they are poised to make a big defensive line push in the 2018 class. The Sooners currently have have five defensive tackles on the roster with Matt Romar being the lone senior. There are no freshmen defensive tackles currently on the roster and Oklahoma has yet to lock up a commitment from the position in the 2018 class.
