Sooners Sweep The Cowgirls With 1-0 Victory

The Oklahoma Sooners may have claimed a Big 12 Regular Season Title, however the program looked to build momentum for the offseason. Squaring off against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls looking for a sweep, the two found themselves in a stalemate. Unable to score a run through five innings of play, it remained anyone’s ball game.

In the top of the sixth, it appeared the course of the game would not change. Oklahoma’s Kelsey Arnold fouled out while facing the Cowgirl’s Brandi Needham. Pitching a complete game, Needham made a case for player of the game. That was until the Sooners’ Nicole Mendes stepped up to the plate. Taking a swing at a pitch, Mendes sent the ball over the wall. The homer marked the first and only score of the game.

With six outs until the close of the game, OU hoped to push the lead a bit further. Bringing Fale Aviu aboard due to being hit by a pitch, Nicole Pendley singled to putting a runner in scoring position. Clamping down on defense, O-State secured three consecutive outs refusing to let the game get out of hand.

Unable to score with the final three outs, Oklahoma State suffered a sweep at the hands of in-state rival Oklahoma.
