Oklahoma Sooners Eliminated After Late Rally Falls Short

Through eight innings of play, the Oklahoma Sooners found themselves trailing the TCU Horned Frogs 9-0 and on the verge of elimination. With three outs remaining, Coach Pete Hughes went to work. Opting to sub Blake Brewster in as a pinch hitter for Steele Walker, the sophomore delivered. Driving a double to right field, Brewster found his way into scoring position.

Continuing the trend, Kyler Murray pinch hit for Austin O’Brien and produced a similar result. With patience at the plate, the dual-sport athlete secured a walk. Behind him, Jeremiah Adams — also pinch hitting for Brylie Ware — drew a second consecutive walk loading the bases for Ben Hollas.

Unfortunately Hollas struck out swing leaving the bases loaded with a single out. It would then be Kyle Mendenhall securing the first RBI of the game of the Oklahoma Sooners. A single through the gap allowed Brewster to cross home cutting into the lead and building momentum.

Batting around the order, the Sooners gave every last ounce of effort. Pushing a total of four runs across the plate in the ninth inning, the effort ended abruptly at the hands of TCU. In the end it was OU being eliminated from the Big 12 Tournament. Now, they’ll await their future in post-season play.
