The Oklahoma Sooners have picked up yet another 2018 verbal commitment. On Tuesday evening, 4-star running back, Tavion Thomas announced his intentions via twitter. Joining the influx of recent commitments, Thomas becomes the third since the Lincoln Riley assumed the role of head coach.
Hailing from Dayton, Ohio, Thomas grabbed a mere 137 carries during a junior campaign on the high school circuit. However, on those 137 carries, the sizable back rushed for 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns. Crunching the numbers, Thomas averaged an impressive 11.68 yards per carry. Weighing in as the No. 19 running back prospect in the nation, Thomas receives offers from around the country. Yet, the 6-2 running back committed to the Sooners over perennial powers like USC, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Alabama.
Possessing a physical running style, is a versatile playmaker. Of course, when it comes to the Big 12, pass protection separates those who earn playing time from those who don’t. With his size, Thomas shouldn’t have an issue picking up the blitz allowing the quarterback to get the ball out.
