The Oklahoma Sooners are looking forward to the upcoming season with high expectations. Returning a few key players such as Baker Mayfield and Orlando Brown certainly help the cause. However, a few question marks remain on the offensive side of the ball. Those question marks prime a few skill players for a break out year. Who are they?
Abdul Adams | Sophomore Running Back
It’s no secret that Oklahoma lost the majority of the backfield production with the loss of Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon. With big shoes to fill, many expect Rodney Anderson to impact the game in a big way. However, with the word coming out of camp, I am expecting Adams to have a significant role in the fall. As the most experienced back on the roster, Adams carried the ball 53 times in 2016. Continuing to build upon minor success, Adams stands primed for a break out season with the gaps left to fill.
Jeff Badet | Senior Wide Receiver
After transferring from Kentucky, Badet has showcased the skills necessary to succeed anywhere in the nation. However, the SEC isn’t exactly known for it’s top notch quarterbacks. Facing some of the best defenses, Badet knows how to get open and make the catch. With a Heisman Candidate quarterback hurling the ball his way, I expect him to build up his numbers from Kentucky. Look for Badet to have a big season as a senior and leader on this squad.
Caleb Kelly | Sophomore Linebacker
Kelly finished the year with a 12-tackle performance in the Sugar Bowl. As a former 5-star recruit, Kelly possesses a unique skill set that most players only dream of. While Oklahoma is changing the scheme the feature more four-man fronts, but Kelly can continue to be an elite pass rusher when needed. But, expect the sophomore to be able to drop back into pass coverage with no problem. Kelly will be a vital piece of the defense moving forward not only in 2017, but also in the years to come.
