The final weekend of regular season college football games is upon us. As we approach the final Saturday with a full slate of games here’s some thoughts on how we rank the Big 12.
Craig
After a dominating win against the Jayhawks, the Sooners remain the best team in the Big 12. The Horned Frogs put together a solid defensive performance against the Red Raiders that proves they are right behind Oklahoma. Rounding out the top three I have Oklahoma State. Despite losing to Kansas State last week, I still feel like the Pokes are a top team in the Big 12.
Nothing new in the bottom two. The Jayhawks can’t get a win to save their lives at this point. Baylor and Kansas seem to be a lock for the bottom two teams. However, Texas Tech is dangerously close to joining them.
Matt
There’s no denying the top two in the conference at this point. Any argument that could have been made for Oklahoma State to be top two was null and void after last week’s upset loss to Kansas State. Oklahoma has the top spot with TCU just behind and really from there it’s a toss-up until you get to Baylor and Kansas.
Rich
Punching a ticket the the Big 12 Championship Game, the Sooners completely obliterated Kansas over the weekend. With a single loss to their name, it’s an easy pick out thing OU at number one in the power rankings again.
As the most likely candidate to punch the second ticket to the championship, TCU controls their own destiny at this point. Holding TTU to three points on Saturday? Gary Patterson is proving why he’s one of the best in the business.
With West Virginia and Oklahoma State losing, I’ve got to throw some love at Iowa State. The Cyclones still have an outside shot of making the Big 12 Championship Game. ISU does not necessarily have a high flying offense. But their defense has been impressive in Big 12 play. Coming off a two game skid, the Cyclones get the nod from me.
Zack
The Sooners looked sloppy against the Jayhawks, and Baker Mayfield’s antics weren’t exactly a good look for Oklahoma, but this team belongs in the College Football Playoff. No Will Grier on Saturday should be a recipe for an easy win for the Sooners.
Barring some catastrophic meltdown in Waco on Saturday, the Horned Frogs will get a rematch with the Sooners in the Big 12 Championship.
The loss at home to Kansas State was ugly, plain and simple. It’s hard to get up for a season finale against the Kansas Jayhawks, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cowboys score 60 points on Saturday.
The Bears will try to play the upset this weekend as they host TCU. If Baylor somehow pulls it off, the Horned Frogs will be out of the Big 12 Championship, and SOMEHOW, the Iowa State Cyclones will be in.
The Jayhawks held their own against the Sooners, but they looked bad in the process. There’s no excuse for poor sportsmanship. They should expect no mercy from Oklahoma State, who is determined to prove something
