First the first time in history, the NCAA Football Signing Period opened season early. Expecting most, if not all, recruits to sign on December 20th, the Oklahoma Sooners received more than their fair share of letters of intent. At this point in time, here’s the list of signees for the 2018 class.

4-Star Recruits

  • Brey Walker, a 6-7 Offensive Tackle and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Oklahoma as well as the No. 28 overall prospect in the country
  • T.J. Pledger, a 5-8 Running Back and the No. 3 RB prospect in the country
  • Ronnie Perkins, a 6-2 Weakside Defensive End and the No. 6 WDE in the country

  • Darrell Simpson, a 6-7 Offensive Tackle and the No. 14 OT in the country
  • Tramonda Moore, a 6-6 JUCO Offensive Tackle (originally from Oklahoma) and the No. 7 overall prospect in the country

  • Delarrin Turner-Yell, a 5-10 Safety and the No. 108 S in the country

Committed, Not Signed

  • Tavion Thomas, a 6-2 Running Back and the No. 16 RB in the country
  • Jordan Austin, a 6-1 Safety and the No. 50 S in the country
  • Treveon Johnson, a 6-1 Wide Receiver and the No. 116 WR in the country

One thing that’s clear in this year’s recruiting class is that the Sooners put a premium on defensive players. With a young but talented group on campus on the offensive side of the ball, it’s easy to see why. However, OU also put a priority on in state products.

Signing six players from the state of Oklahoma, all six remain in the top 300. It’s a feat the Sooners completed last year and looked to continue into the future. It appears as though it’s a recipe for success for Lincoln Riley and Co.
