If Mariah Lopez was seeking redemption on Saturday then she found it in a big way. The Sooners also found their bats in producing their strongest offensive performance of their first four games. The end result was another two-game sweep in the GCU Kickoff Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona.
Oklahoma 4 – Montana 0
After being chased out of the game in Friday’s season opener, Lopez returned to the diamond Saturday morning and produced a dominating performance. In six innings of work the sophomore allowed just one hit and struck out eleven of the nineteen batters she faced to pick up her first win of the season.
She was supported offensively by Sydney Romero who went 3-for-3 from the plate and used a third inning home run to knock in two of her three RBI.
Oklahoma 10 – Grand Canyon 0
In the night cap Oklahoma used a 5-run second inning to help run rule the tournament hosts, 10-0, in five innings. Freshman Jocelyn Alo went yard for the second time in as many days and she (2) combined with Fale Aviu (2), Nicole Pendley (3), and Lea Wodach (2) to produce 10 RBI.
From the circle Paige Parker picked up her second win of the season after throwing just 2.1 innings.
The Sooners close out the tournament on Sunday against University of the Pacific.
