Spring football is taking place across Big 12 Country and one of the key position battles is taking place in Austin, Texas where Sam Ehlinger is trying to stave off Shane Buechele, as well as freshmen Cameron Rising and Newcastle, Oklahoma product Casey Thompson for the starting quarterback position. That’s not keeping Ehlinger from taking shots north of the border at his arch-rivals though.
Ehlinger’s tweet was aimed at former Oklahoma offensive lineman Orlando Brown who only produced 14 reps on the bench press at 225 pounds. Not that it was needed, but one of Brown’s former teammates are coming to his defense.
There are a lot of athletes that take shots at their opponents and possibly none were better than Austin, TX native, and former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield. With Mayfield moving on to the NFL, perhaps Ehlinger is trying to fill the void as Twitter King of the Big 12.
The problem is, it’s hard to talk down to opponents when you’re laying on your back. Ehlinger played in only seven games last season and completed less than 60% of his passes. He was also on the losing end of the Red River Rivalry which makes the jab towards Oklahoma players even more underwhelming.
