The Oklahoma Sooners are under the direction of first year Head Coach Skip Johnson. Turning the page quickly, the program currently sit 6-0 in conference play for the first time in school history. Earning two consecutive sweeps over the past two weekends, individuals are being tabbed as weekly conference award winners.
Becoming the most recent recipient, Jake Irvin was tabbed the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after a career high weekend. The right-handed pitcher tossed eight innings against the Baylor Bears. Striking out seven batters, Irvin allowed two hits and two runs to score before earning the win. With the victory, the 6’6″ junior notched his fifth of the season while sporting a 2.27 ERA.
Irvin will likely continue to hold down the Friday starting position as Oklahoma travels to Ft. Worth to take on the TCU Horned Frogs this weekend. The Horned Frogs dropped out of the rankings this week after securing the No. 18 spot. However, the Sooners entered the top twenty-fove for the first time at No. 20 in the country.
It’s a big weekend for both programs as Johnson looks to continue the early success and TCU hopes to right the ship.
