2018 NBA Draft | Trae Young’s Official Measurements & Predicting The Pick

Over the course of the week, NBA executives learned the results of the lottery and must now prepare to evaluate players at the Combine. Hoping to find a diamond in the rough, measurements of potential draftees have been compiled for all to see. As the Combine and subsequently Draft Day quickly approach, where will Trae Young fall in a class full of front-court talent?

Officially standing 6’2, the Oklahoma Sooners’ freshman phenom weighed in at 177-pounds. These numbers bode well for the point guard hopeful as the averages in the league are 6’2 and 189-pounds. With the size concerns put to rest, all evaluators can focus on the set of skills Young possesses.

For those fans who refused to miss a game, it’s incredibly clear that Young retains the ability to knock down shots from NBA 3-point range and beyond. An elite passer, the phenom can easily transition from scoring into a floor general. Involving teammates and making those around him better are all possibilities from this young prospect out of Norman, Oklahoma. However, it only begs the question of which franchises are looking to lang a point guard in the first round of the 2018 Draft.

The most obvious answer in the Orlando Magic who currently hold the No. 6 overall pick in the upcoming draft. A quick look over the roster and it becomes apparent that the Magic are in desperate need of a “coach on court” and a player to establish their identity. After Elfrid Payton’s departure via a trade agreement, DJ Augustin proved to be lacking in the defensive department. The shortcomings left Shelvin Mack as an emergency back-up, yet unviable option as THE starter.

After passing on point guards during the 2017 NBA Draft, John Hammond cannot afford a repeat performance. In a deep draft class, three point guards likely find themselves being selected with lottery picks. Those three are of course Luka Doncic, Trae Young, and Collin Sexton. Unfortunately for Orlando, Doncic will not be around at the sixth overall pick leaving the other two on the board. Needing a primary scorer and distributor, who will the Magic select?

Prediction? The player who embodies those characteristics…Trae Young!
