There are a lot of people who are going to have a lot of problems with the release of the NBA’s all-defensive team and Oklahoma City Thunder fans may be leading the charge.
First team:
- Rudy Gobert, Jazz
- Anthony Davis, Pelicans
- Victor Oladipo, Pacers
- Jrue Holiday, Pelicans
- Robert Covington, 76ers
Second team:
- Joel Embiid, 76ers
- Draymond Green, Warriors
- Al Horford, Celtics
- Dejounte Murray, Spurs
- Jimmy Butler, Timberwolves
Notably absent from the list are Andre Roberson, Russell Westbrook and Paul George who led Oklahoma City’s defensive effort. The odds of all of them making the All-Defensive Team together were super long, but the odds of not a single one of them making the list should have been super slim.
Roberson missed a ton of time after undergoing surgery to repair a ruptured left patellar tendon in late January.
That said, Rudy Gobert and Joel Embiid both missed a considerable amount of time due to injury as well, yet they made their way to the list.
Paul George finished the season with a Defensive Win Share of 3.3 and Russell Westbrook was at 3.7 on the year. Both of those were good enough to rank in the Top 24 of the NBA but apparently neither were good enough to make the All-Defensive Team.
