Oklahoma City Thunder | Game #72 Preview: Philadelphia 76ers

The Oklahoma City Thunder won their 11th straight game on Saturday against the Washington Wizards despite a scuffle that led to OKC losing Jaylin Williams, Ajay Mitchell, and Cason Wallace to ejection. Ajay Mitchell received a one-game suspension, which he will serve on Monday night as the Thunder plays the fourth game of a five-game East Coast road trip.

Thunder Against the Spread | OKC Heads to Philly as Heavy Favorite in JDub’s Return to Action

Ajay Mitchell received a one-game suspension for his involvement in the scuffle with the Washington Wizards on Saturday, but Jalen Williams is back in action. On the other hand, the Sixers are missing their top three scorers—Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Paul George—which is why the Thunder is such a heavy favorite. OKC is at full strength for the first time in what seems like forever, and even though this is the fourth game in a five-game road trip, I like the Thunder to cover.

While recency bias has everyone feeling some type of way about the current state of the Thunder, the full picture cannot be forgotten. OKC has dominated for a giant chunk of the season so far, and they are an experienced team that has been through their share of ups and downs. Championship teams turn losses into lessons, and they have done that time and time again. Sunday afternoon offers another opportunity to prove that a lesson has been learned as the Thunder hosts the Philadelphia 76ers.

Thunder Against the Spread | OKC Favored by Double Digits at Home Against Sixers Missing Embiid

This is a tough line. If it were closer to OKC by 10 or 11, I would feel a lot more comfortable, so call me a bit optimistic by taking the Thunder to win big. After the way they’ve played lately, it’s hard to tell just where they’re at mentally, but it would do them a lot of good to dominate at home, especially with the tough schedule ahead.

Oklahoma City Thunder | Game #39 Preview: Philadelphia 76ers

The Oklahoma City Thunder wraps up their brief 3-game East Coast road trip on Tuesday night as they take on the struggling Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers have been missing Joel Embiid for a good chunk of their season, and that is a big reason for their 15-22 record. Without Embiid, the Sixers have struggled to score points, and it has cost them a handful of winnable games.

Thunder Against the Spread | OKC a Double-Digit Favorite in Philly as Sixers Are Missing Joel Embiid

The Sixers have had the Thunder’s number in year’s past primarily because of the matchup issue that Joel Embiid creates. Well, Embiid is out, and the Thunder has Isaiah Hartenstein now, so this meeting should go a bit differently. Philadelphia has quality playmakers in Tyrese Maxey and Paul George, but OKC’s stellar defense should be enough to open up a big lead late and cover the spread.

Oklahoma City Thunder | Game #75 Preview: Philadelphia 76ers

The Oklahoma City Thunder narrowly escape New York with a win against the Knicks on Sunday after being down by 10 to start the fourth quarter. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander hit a shot with just under two seconds left in the game to put the Thunder on top 113-112, and Jalen Brunson was unable to seal the game at the buzzer, giving OKC the win. The Thunder continue their 5-game road trip tonight in Philadelphia as they take on the 76ers.

Thunder Against the Spread | OKC Favored in Philly Amid Questions on Injury Report

Both Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams are listed as questionable on today’s injury report with some minor ailments, but based on the spread, I would expect them to play. There was word that Joel Embiid might make his return tonight after missing the last two months with a meniscus injury, but he is still listed as out. That could change, but he would likely be on a minutes restriction even if he did. Lastly, Tyrese Maxey is listed as questionable for the Sixers, so Philly is far from healthy. Because of the way both teams have been playing lately, I’m inclined to say OKC should be able to get a win before heading to Boston tomorrow night, but it could be difficult to cover the spread. Still, I’m going to go ahead and take the Thunder to cover.

Oklahoma City Thunder | Game #16 Preview: Philadelphia 76ers

The Oklahoma City Thunder is the hottest team in the NBA right now. Riding a 6-game winning streak, the Thunder looks like the next big thing in basketball, and they get a chance on Saturday afternoon to take on one of the league’s giants from the last few seasons as Joel Embiid and the Phildealphi 76ers are in town.

Thunder Against the Spread | Sixers Barely Favored Over Thunder in OKC

The Thunder are going to be tested in this one for sure, but playing in OKC is a slight edge. The Thunder is riding the league’s longest active winning streaking right now, and the Sixers have lost two in a row. Add to it that that OKC has played really well in these games where the spread is extremely close, and I see the Thunder pulling out a tight win.
