Baseball America Projects Oklahoma In The Athens Regional

The 16 regional sites for the 2018 NCAA Tournament were released on Sunday, with an announcement on the complete field of 64 coming on Monday. In advance of that announcement, Baseball America posted it’s final NCAA Tournament projections. Included in those projections are five Big 12 teams.

Baseball America has Oklahoma traveling to Athens, Georgia to play against Purdue, Samford and the host Bulldogs. Georgia finished second in the S.E.C. East (Behind Florida), with a 37-19 overall record, to earn the #9 overall seed in the tournament and become a regional host.

Texas Tech (#13 overall seed) and Texas (#15 overall seed) will both host a regional and, according to Baseball America, Oklahoma State traveling to Minneapolis, Minnesota. They also have Baylor heading to Corvallis, Oregon.

While Baseball America certainly knows what they’re talking about, it’s important to keep in mind that this is just a projection.

Another popular opinion is that the Sooners could be heading to the Fayetteville Regional. However, with a deeper run in the Big 12 Tournament than most anticipated, it’s logical that they could have earned the more favorable position in Athens. Arkansas is the #5 overall seed making that a much stronger regional.
