Lincoln Riley’s Oklahoma Sooners have the fewest number of 2019 commitments than any other program ranked in the Top 5. However, the quality of the current commitments was enough to see OU move up in the latest class rankings.
The rise of quarterback Spencer Rattler (Phoenix, Arizona) to a 5-star rating helped move the Sooners up in the latest 247Sports composite rankings. Rattler, the top overall pro-style quarterback in the 2019 class is joined by receiver Theo Wease (Allen, Texas) with the coveted 5-star ranking, giving Oklahoma one more 5-star commitment than top-ranked Alabama or #2 Texas A&M.
OU’s fifteen commitments breakdown as two 5-star (Rattler & Wease), nine 4-star, and four 3-star recruits. While Rattler and Wease take the headlines with their rankings the meat of this class is found in the nine 4-star athletes that include Rattler’s other weapons in tight end Austin Stogner along with receivers Arjei Henderson and Trejan Bridges.
Leading the defensive side of the ball is 4-star corner Woodi Washington (Murfreesboro, Tennessee) who joined the class by making his commitment on July 6th. He’s joined by 4-star defensive ends Joseph Wete and Marcus Hicks who are the #1 and #2 overall players from the states of Maryland and Kansas.
