There’s hot shooting and then there’s just ridiculously hot shooting. Wisconsin chose the latter to pull away from Oklahoma in their 78-58 win in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis on Thursday.
D’Mitrik Trice sank seven of his eight three-point attempts and the Badgers shot 63.6% from long range, converting on 14 of 22 attempts. Trice led all scorers with 25 points but was joined by Ethan Happ (14 points), Kobe King (14 points), and Nate Reuvers (12 points) in double figure scoring.
The Badgers held a 31-28 lead at the half but used a 12-3 run to separate from Oklahoma, ultimately outscoring the Sooners 47-30 over the final twenty minutes.
Senior guard Christian James led OU is scoring once again but got little support in his 18 point effort. Aaron Calixte produced 10 points but no other Oklahoma player hit double figures.
The Sooners were edged out on the boards 33-31, but truthfully there weren’t a lot of rebounds to go around. Jamuni McNeace led the way for Oklahoma with six boards but Happ had twelve in a double-double performance for the Badgers.
Oklahoma will be in the third place game at 11:30 Friday morning. They’ll play the loser of Virginia and Dayton.
