Under Lon Kruger the Sooners are 41-4 at home against non-conference opponents. That mark will be put to the test tonight against an undefeated North Texas team that is scoring an average of 79.1 points per game and holding opponents to just 56.4 points per game.
Seven of the eight Mean Green wins have come in Denton, Texas in front of the home crowd. North Texas traveled a long way for their lone road win, a 68-51 decision at Hawaii.
Paced by sophomore forward Zachary Simmons’ 15 points per game, UNT has four players averaging double figures in scoring. Umoja Gibson (14.4 PPG), Roosevelt Smart (13 PPG), and Ryan Woolridge (12.9 PPG) all fall in behind Simmons in scoring.
Oklahoma’s Christian James continues to lead the Big 12 in scoring with an average of 20.8 points per game. He was named as an all-tournament selection at the Battle 4 Atlantis after collectively scoring the second most points of anyone at the tournament.
Senior center Jamuni McNeace also had a strong showing in the Bahamas, averaging four blocked shots and 10.7 points per contest during the three-game stretch.
OU is averaging 73.5 points per game this season and holding opponents to an average of 66.5.
The Sooners are 5-1 overall against North Texas with the Mean Green’s one win coming back in 1966. Most recently Oklahoma won 82-72 last season in Norman.
Oklahoma will be off for a week, following tonight’s game, before heading to New York for the Jimmy V Classic.
