Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith Pick Hamidou Diallo to Win Dunk Contest

During Thursday Night’s NBA on TNT Pregame show, the quartet of Shaquille O’Neal, Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Charles Barkley discussed NBA All-Star Weekend, including their picks for the Slam Dunk Contest.

Shaq kicked off with his prediction, followed by Kenny Smith, and they both had positive things to say about Thunder rookie Hamidou Diallo.

O’Neal picked Diallo, and his reasoning was, “(Diallo) has those boi-oings,” referencing Hami’s ability to jump as high as anyone.

Smith picked Diallo as well, saying, “Because he’s from LeFrak City, Queens (in New York)…where I grew up.”

Charles Barkley tried to play the funny guy and act like he had no idea who the four participants in the Dunk Contest even were, but he ended up saying he was going to go with John Collins of the Atlanta Hawks, while Ernie Johnson chose Miles Bridges of the Charlotte Hornets, simply because he’s the “hometown guy” since the All-Star Game is in Charlotte, North Carolina.

While the analysis from the guys on NBA on TNT is not always based on sound reasoning, it’s pretty cool to see Diallo get some respect in front of a national audience.
