Oklahoma was able to withstand a third inning Notre Dame rally on Thursday night and distance themselves from the Irish in a 6-2 final at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational.
After plating Jocelyn Alo in the first inning and Fale Aviu in the third, Oklahoma freshman Grace Lyons went yard on a solo shot in the top of the fourth to give OU a 3-0 lead.
Notre Dame did anything but cower down to the third ranked Sooners. A 2-run homer from senior Caitlyn Brooks in the bottom of the fourth pulled the Fighting Irish to within 3-2.
Oklahoma wasn’t done yet. The Sooners responded with three more runs in the top of the fifth thanks, in part, to a 2-run home run off the bat of Reagan Rogers to provide the final score of 6-2.
Transfer pitchers “G” Juarez and Shannon Saile tossed the Sooners to their seventh consecutive win. Juarez picked up her third win of the young season by tossing five innings in which she struck out seven batters. Saile threw the final two innings, allowing not hits and fanning four.
The Sooners are back in action of Friday with a double-header that has them playing Florida Atlantic at 9:00 AM (CT) and then top ranked Florida State at Noon.
