For the first time this season Oklahoma played a mid-week softball game and you’re provably not going to be surprised to know that the result was very familiar. The Sooners walked off the field with a 6-1 win propelled by strong pitching performances and power hitting.
Shannon Saile improved her season record to 3-1 after throwing four innings of shutout ball in which she allowed just one hit and struck out seven of the thirteen batters she faced.
Nicole Mendes, Mariah Lopez, and Parker Conrad closed out the game by throwing an inning each. Mendes was rung up for the Cowgirls only run while Lopez and Conrad didn’t allow a hit.
“I thought the pitching staff did a good job tag-teaming, to get out there and show different looks,” OU head coach Patty Gasso said after the game on SoonerSports.com.
Freshman Grace Green and senior Sydney Romero sparked Oklahoma’s offense by going a combined 5-for-5 from the plate. Green went
3-for-3 from the plate with a run scored, two RBIs and a home run. Romero was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Sooners are slated to play four home games this weekend against Northwestern (Friday and Sunday), Drake (Saturday), and Grand Canyon (Saturday) as they host the Home Tournament.
