Oklahoma’s offense exploded to the tune of seven runs in two innings to overwhelm #25 Northwestern in their opener of the OU Home Tournament in Norman Friday night.
Six of OU’s seven home runs came off the long ball beginning with freshman Grace Lyons going deep to center field in the bottom of the third inning.
A pair of solo homers by Sydney Romero and Shay Knighten, in the bottom of the fourth, boosted Oklahoma’s lead to 3-0. Then Kylie Lundberg quickly doubled that with a three-run blast to right field.
Lyons would cap the fourth inning by scoring Oklahoma’s seventh and final run on a throwing error.
From the pitcher’s circle, “G” Juarez improved her record to 7-0 on the season by pitching five innings of shutout ball. She struck out six batters and allowed just one hit on the night.
Shannon Saile was phenomenal as a closer, striking out five of the six batters she faced over the last two innings.
The Sooners are back at it again on Saturday with a double-header. They’ll face Drake at 1:00 PM (CT) before hosting a familiar foe in Grand Canyon at 6:00 PM. OU beat GCU 7-1 on February 8th at the GCU Kickoff Tournament.
