Oklahoma concluded a dominating weekend performance in the softball diamond with an 8-0 dismantling of Northwestern.
The Sooners exploded for seven runs in the second inning with five of them coming off home runs. Fale Aviu got the scoring started for Oklahoma with a solo shot to left center field. Grace Lyons then sent a three-run blast to nearly the same spot. Lynnsie Elam then sent the third ball out of the park with a solo homer to left field.
Oklahoma’s seven-run second inning paved the way for another run-rule victory. The Sooners added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth when Audrie LaValley came home on a Elyiah Flores ground out to short stop.
From the pitching circle, Giselle Juarez boosted her perfect season record to 9-0 by allowing just two hits and striking out six batters in four innings of work. Nicole Mendes came in to pitch the fifth and fanned two of the four batters she faces, allowing just one hit.
Sunday’s victory was the third shutout for Oklahoma over the weekend. OU won those three games by a combined score of 16-0.
The third-ranked Sooners are heading back out west for the LMU/CSUN Tournament. They’re slated to play five games, in three days, in and around the Los Angeles area.
