Levi Prater make a strong case to be named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week as for the second weekend in a row the Sooners won a series after initially trailing 0-1.
After blowing an 8-0 lead in Friday’s opener with Missouri State, Oklahoma came back to win on Saturday, 11-2, thanks to strong plate appearances from Cade Cavalli, Brady Lindsly, and Conor McKenna. The trio combined to score six runs and knock in 7 RBI on six hits.
Facing another Sunday rubber-match Prater took the mound a week after fanning nine batters in Oklahoma’s win over Rice and completely had his way with the Bears.
Striking out a career-high 15 batters, Prater became the first Sooners hurler to reach that mark since Jared Hoerman in 1999.
With Prater keeping Missouri State at bay, the Sooners racked up double digit hits for the sixth consecutive game.
Led by a two-run home run by Cade Cavalli, in the bottom of the seventh, Oklahoma scored six runs, off eleven hits, to take the rubber match by a final of 6-1.
It was the second multi-RBI blast by Cavalli in as many days, giving him a strong case for Big 12 Player of the Week as well.
The Sooners head to Albuquerque next for a two-game series against New Mexico that will begin on Saturday night.
