The Oklahoma City Thunder’s first-round matchup of the Western Conference Playoffs has been settled, and the Thunder will matchup with the Portland Trail Blazers.
After the Thunder defeated the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night to clinch the 6-seed in the West, the Portland Trail Blazers played just six guys and came back from a 28-point deficit to defeat the Sacramento Kings. The Denver Nuggets, who trailed by 11 points with a little over 3 minutes to go, defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, and after it was all said and done, the Blazers earned the 3-seed to set the matchup with the Thunder.
Here is the schedule for the first round:
After struggling with the Blazers over the last several years, the Thunder swept Portland in the regular season. While this is encouraging, one must remember that, according to Russell Westbrook, regular season records don’t matter all that much when it comes to a playoff matchup.
Not to be forgotten is that Portland is without Jusuf Nurkic, who broke his leg on March 25th. To say this is a favorable matchup for OKC would be an understatement.
More good news for the Thunder is that they enter the playoffs riding the momentum of a 5-game win streak, and if they can play with that same kind of intensity, then they could very well have a chance to break out of the first round for the first time in several years.
Stay tuned for more playoff coverage.
