For the third consecutive weekend the Oklahoma Sooners won a Friday night series opener only drop the next two games and ultimately the series.
The Sooners out-slugged #17 Baylor on Friday night in a 7-5 victory. Cade Cavalli pitched five and a third innings to collect his fifth win of the season and Brylie Ware hit a three-run home run to lead Oklahoma from the plate.
Saturday didn’t bring the same luck as junior pitcher Nathan Wiles was rung up for seven runs before the first Oklahoma player finally crossed home plate in the top of the seventh inning. The Sooners crossed home plate seven times in the inning but were still four runs shy in an eventual 7-3 loss.
Sunday’s rubber match turned into a twelve inning marathon as Oklahoma scored a run in both the fourth and fifth innings to tie up the Bears. The day was dominated by defense as the two teams left a combined twenty runners on base and only pushed five total runs across the plate.
That fifth run was the key though and unfortunately it belonged to Baylor in the bottom of the twelfth inning. An RBI single, through the right side, by Chase Wehsener scored Shea Langeliers for a walk-off win.
After sweeping the Kansas Jayhawks, to open Big 12 play, the Sooners have gone 3-6 in conference games leaving them in a three-way tie with Texas Tech and West Virginia for fourth place in the conference standings.
Oklahoma will step out of conference play for the next five games before visiting Kansas State for a three-game series that begins on April 26th.
