Oklahoma Softball | Sooners Wrap Up Weekend With 8-0 Run-Rule Victory

Oklahoma scored eight runs during the third and fourth innings and Shannon Saile fanned five batters over four innings of work to earn her fourth win of the season in an 8-0 run-rule of Northern Illinois.

Home runs from Jocelyn Alo and Lynnsie Elam propelled the OU offense Sunday morning. Alo blasted her fourth long ball of the season in the bottom of the third to put Oklahoma on the board and Elam capped the scoring with a 2-run shot in the bottom of the fourth to build Oklahoma’s lead to 8-0.

Alo and Elam were joined by Grace Green in recording multiple hits on the day (all three had two) and Elam, Kinzie Hansen, and Grace Lyons all recorded two RBI each.

Shannon Saile improved her record to 2-1 on the season by tossing four innings of shutout ball. She allowed just three hits while striking out five batters. Freshman Alanna Thiede secured the run-rule victory by pitching a no-hit fifth inning.

Up next for the Sooners is the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, California. Oklahoma, now 7-1 on the season, will face the strongest competition of the season with Nebraska, Texas A&M, Washington, and Wisconsin all on the schedule for next weekend.
