Oklahoma Baseball | Sooners Blast 21 Hits In Home Opener

Oklahoma plated eleven runs through the first five innings against Texas Southern in Tuesday’s home opener. The Sooners went on to record at least one run in every inning that they batted in except for the fifth. In all, OU recorded twenty-one total hits on their way to a 14-1 blowout victory.

Tanner Treadaway and Trent Brown both went yard in the contest. Brown’s was a 2-run blast in the bottom of the third while Treadaway’s was a solo shot to left field for the only run scored in the fifth.

Twelve different players recorded a hit in the game, with seven producing multiple hits. Tyler Hardman and Justin Mitchell recorded three hits each to lead the team.

From the mound Ben Abram picked up a win in his first start of the season. The sophomore allowed just two hits and struck out five batters in five innings of work. Oklahoma pitchers recorded a total of twelve strikeouts in the game with Christian Ruebeck, Braxton Webb, Brad Demco, and Carson Carter throwing for one inning each.

Texas Southern’s lone run came in the top of the 9th when Rode Coffee scored Reuben Bennevendo on an infield RBI single. It was the only hit Oklahoma junior Carson Carter allowed during his inning of work.
