Oklahoma Baseball | Sooners Hand Arkansas First Loss Of Season

Wyatt Olds improved his season record to 3-0 and Cade Cavalli fanned a career-high 11 batters as Oklahoma defeated Arkansas 6-3 to open the Shriner’s College Classic. It was the first loss of the season for Arkansas and improved Oklahoma’s record to 8-2.

The Sooners took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Brady Harlan scored on a Trent Brown fly-out to center field. They doubled the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third with Tanner Tredaway crossing home plate on a Brady Lindsly ground out.

Arkansas scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead but the Sooners rallied back to tie that game in the bottom of the sixth off a Lindsly home run to left field.

Oklahoma went ahead for good in the seventh with three runs coming in off the bats of Brandon Zaragoza and Tyler Hardman. Brown scored off a Zaragoza single and then Hardman singled to left resulting in Zaragoza and Conor McKenna coming home on a throwing error.

Cavalli pitched five innings, striking out 11 of the 21 batters he faced. He was relieved by Olds in the sixth. He struck out six over three innings or work to pick up the win. Jason Ruffcorn pitched a no-hit ninth inning to pick up his fourth save of the season.

Oklahoma will play Missouri in its second game of the Shriner’s College Classic on Saturday. First pitch is set for 11:00 am.
