After opening the Courtyard Marriott Tournament with an 8-3 win over Northwestern, Oklahoma got off to a bit of a slower start in Friday’s second game. Abilene Christian pitcher Alivia Sinnott sat the Sooners down in order in the bottom of the first and then stranded Grace Green and Lynnsie Elam in the bottom of the second.
Oklahoma finally struck pay dirt in the bottom of the third, with Jocelyn Alo scoring on a Kinzie Hansen single, before Elam, Eliyah Flores, and Raylee Pogue hit three consecutive home runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.
The Wildcats got one back in the top of the fifth when Lacy Johnson hit a home run to left field. They cut Oklahoma’s lead to 4-2 in the top of the sixth with Briana Tijerina crossing home plate.
Brooke Vestal went six innings for the Sooners to pick up the win. She fanned five batters in on the night before giving way to Shannon Saile in the seventh. Saile put the Wildcats down in order to pick up the save and secure Oklahoma’s 13th win of the season.
The Sooners will play North Texas at 12:30 pm on Saturday.
