4-Star Linebacker Clayton Smith Commits To Sooners

Clayton Smith became Oklahoma’s second commitment on Friday, significantly bolstering the Sooners’ 2021 recruiting class. The 4-star outside linebacker from Texarkana, Texas joined 5-star receiver Mario Williams in bringing the OU class from five to seven commitments.

Ranked as the #6 outside linebacker in the class, and the #9 player from the state of Texas, Smith owns 27 scholarship offers. He narrowed those down to Oklahoma, LSU, Kentucky, Florida State, Oregon, and Texas last week.

At 6-4/220, Smith has the frame and speed to play the “Jack Linebacker” role as a pass-rushing specialists. He’s a three-sport athlete (basketball, football, and track) who was named as an all-district defensive end last year following his junior season.

Smith is the fourth defender to join Oklahoma’s 2021 recruiting class.
