Caleb Williams is entering his final week of the school year and I think a college commitment will follow shortly. In the meantime Williams continues to target high profile recruits on both sides of the ball. Oklahoma gained commitments last week from 5-star receiver Mario Williams and 4-star linebacker Clayton Smith. In addition, 5-star receiver Emeka Egbuka released a Top 4 that included OU.
All of those guys have been connected to Caleb Williams and in his most recent blog journal for Sports Illustrated the top quarterback said he wasn’t finished looking for talent to join him. While he mentions Egbuka and Birmingham, Alabama (Ramsay High School) defensive end Jeremiah Williams in Monday’s post, he spends most of his time talking about Fairfax, Virginia (Robinson Secondary High School) 5-star offensive tackle Tristan Leigh.
Tristan Leigh is one of my good friends, one of my good buddies. He’s a pretty good ball player [laughing]. He has a bunch of offers, I think 40, including LSU, Maryland and Oklahoma. I’m recruiting him to come be my left tackle and protect my backside. He can get whatever he wants to come with me, I’ll pay for his freaking dinner every day [laughing].Caleb Williams, Sports Illustrated
Leigh (6-6/285) does in fact have 40 scholarship offers. Ranked as the #3 player from the state of Virginia and the #6 overall offensive tackle prospect by 247Sports, Leigh seems to be a strong lean towards Clemson at the moment.
That said, Oklahoma did seem to gain some traction with Leigh over the weekend and that is perhaps the most significant thing to note through all of this. I certainly wouldn’t call Caleb Williams mentioning him in this week’s blog entry as just being coincidental.
