For the section of Sooner Nation that remains uneasy about Oklahoma’s 2021 recruiting cycle, let last week’s news ease those concerns. Picking up 5-star receiver Mario Williams and 4-star linebacker Clayton Smith show exactly what the potential of this class could be. It also shows that patience is certainly going to be required.
Obviously news has been a bit slower this week but that doesn’t necessarily translate to not being exciting. Several high-profile prospects have made their final cuts and are including the Sooners. The latest to do so is Rockledge, Florida athlete Raheim Sanders.
At 6-2/210 Sanders is deceptively fast. As a junior last season he caught 15 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns. He only played four games on the defensive side of the ball but racked up 17 tackles and six sacks. It’s no wonder 32 scholarship offers have come in from across the nation.
Currently a heavy lean for Arkansas, the Sooners got in on Sanders late. OU’s offer didn’t come through until April 9th and considering that OU is in the Top 5 for the highly coveted prospect should at least provide some positive vibes.
It’s unclear at this point just where Sanders would fit in on Oklahoma’s roster. His size, speed and versatility give him the range of playing anywhere from H-Back, to running back, to receiver on offense and linebacker or defensive end on defense.
Oklahoma currently has four commitments for the 2021 recruiting class.
