Oklahoma knows all too well how cutthroat college football recruiting can be. The Sooners lost a key running back commit (Jase Mcclellan) to Alabama just before the early signing period began last year but this year is appears as if OU will be the takers and not the givers.
On Thursday night Notre Dame defensive end commit David Abiara seemed to have flipped over to the Oklahoma. The Sooners offered the 4-star recruit a year ago and despite the 6-4/248 star being committed to the Irish since late March of this this year Oklahoma defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux didn’t let up. Now it looks as if that relentless recruiting approach by Thibodeaux has paid off big.
Six 247Sports recruiting experts, including lead experts Brandon Drumm (OU Insider), Steve Wiltfong (247Sports Director of Football Recruiting), and Tom Loy (Notre Dame Insider) all made crystal ball predictions for Abiara on Thursday night.
“If OU were to take him from Notre Dame, he would be a huge get, and even more evidence in the defensive turnaround,” OU Insider Joey Helmer told us on Thursday evening. “The (OU) coaching staff thinks very highly of him,” Helmer, who also gave a crystal ball prediction for Abiara to OU, said.
247Sports has Abiara listed as the #22 strong side defensive end prospect in the nation and the #45 overall player from the state of Texas for the 2021 recruiting cycle. The Mansfield, Texas (Mansfield Legacy High School) prospect has earned 22 scholarship offers including Alabama, LSU, Michigan State, and Texas A&M to go along with Notre Dame and Oklahoma.
