Sooners Could Land Two Of The 10 Best Uncommitted Offensive Prospects Left For 2021

The latest 247Sports recruit rankings came out this week, and while Oklahoma’s top target, Caleb Williams, slipped back a spot to #7 there’s still plenty of potential for the Sooners to start racking up some high-profile offensive commitments. Recruiting results have heavily favored the defensive side of the ball for Oklahoma. Led by a trio of 4-star defensive ends, six of OU’s nine verbal commitments are for Alex Grinch’s Speed Defense.

That ratio could change quickly on, or around, July fourth though. That’s when Williams is supposed to pledge his allegiance to the crimson and cream, and we’re led to believe that he won’t be doing it alone. There’s a very good chance that part of Oklahoma’s July 4th fireworks would include commitments from two of the Top 10 remaining uncommitted offensive players.

Caleb Williams

There’s been no change in his status that would lead us to believe that he’ll land anywhere else than Oklahoma. The Sooners certainly aren’t going to be worried about him dropping from #6 to #7 in the latest rankings. Lincoln Riley knows what he wants in a quarterback and Williams seems to be all of that and possibly even more.

Williams is still the top quarterback in the class and may be the most important prospect available when you consider the combination of talent and influence.

Cemar Wheaton

Rated as the #46 overall player for 2021, 247Sports has Wheaton as the #4 running back in the class, and the #1 running back from Texas. The 5-11/190 speedster possesses 27 scholarship offers and was on the sidelines last October for the Oklahoma/Texas game. While he doesn’t seem to be the sure lock that Williams appears to be, 247Sports Tom Loy has him commiting to Oklahoma.

Landing a verbal commitment from Wheaton, to go along with Williams, would go a long way towards moving the Sooners up in both the national and conference recruiting rankings. Oklahoma currently ranks 29th nationally and 3rd in the Big 12 conference.
