Oklahoma may have lost out in the Christian Leary Sweepstakes but the Sooners are far from being finished in terms of recruiting talent at the receiver position. With a host of offers on the table it’s just a matter of time before the next commitment rolls in to go along with Cody Jackson and Marion Williams. According to at least one expert the next receiver commitment could be Keon Coleman.
Shea Dixon, of 247Sports, cast a crystal ball prediction of Coleman committing to Oklahoma on Monday. The reason why that’s important is because Dixon has his ear to the ground for talent in the state of Louisiana which just happens to be Coleman’s home state.
A 6-4/185 prospect from Opelousas, Louisiana (Opelousas Catholic High School), Coleman is ranked as a 4-star prospect by 247Sports who also has him ranked as the #14 receiver in the nation and the #5 overall prospect from the state of Louisiana.
He has earned 39 scholarship offers and despite narrowing his decision down to Oklahoma, Michigan State, Florida State, South Carolina, Mississippi State, and Kansas a little more than a month ago, he announced on Monday that the Sooners, Jayhawks, and Gamecocks are the three finalists and Dixon is placing his bet that OU wins out.
A three-sport star (Basketball, Football, Track) Coleman has Division I scholarships in both basketball and football. Last season he scored 22 touchdowns on 35 catches and averaged 32.7 yards per catch as a junior.
