Oklahoma keeps adding defenders to the 2021 recruiting class and now they’ve added a ton what defensive coordinator Alex Grinch likes the most, speed. Caleb Johnson has selected the Sooners over nearly 20 other scholarship offers including the likes of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.
The 5-10/170 prospect from Greenville, Texas is a two-way player and a two-sport star. Helping his football team to the playoffs, and setting up the relay team to make it to state before everything was canceled, Johnson is known for his blazing speed.
He’s been clocked at 4.39 in the 40-yard dash by his coaches but the real proof is in the game results. Johnson led the team in receptions with 429 yards, and six touchdowns, on just 30 receptions.
In addition to his big-play ability, Caleb Johnson also possesses the skills to be a lock-down corner on the defensive side of the ball and that seems to be where Oklahoma wants him.
“Right now they’re recruiting me at defensive back,” Johnson told the Greenville Harold Banner. “I can play both. Really, I just want to play. Whichever one gets me the furthest.”
Williams becomes the twelfth commitment for Oklahoma’s 2021 recruiting class and, assuming he plays corner, he’s the eighth defender in the class.
