Did Oklahoma Just Go From Lock To Long Shot For Kendal Daniels?

Kendal Daniels was never committed to the Sooner so we can’t say that the Beggs, Oklahoma star has flipped. However, in what seems to be a disturbing trend, the #2 player in the state is suddenly a heavy lead towards Texas A&M.

At 6-4/190 Daniels has the speed and athleticism to excel at the safety position but also the strength and power to transition to linebacker at the collegiate level. His talent has earned him a total of 24 scholarship offers of which he narrowed down to just four back in May.

Even with heavy hitter like Clemson, LSU, and Texas A&M in the mix Oklahoma seemed like the destination of choice for Daniels. So much so that 247Sports had given three crystal ball predictions for him to land at Oklahoma as far back as October of last year. That has changed in a big way though as Daniels may have fired off the warning shot via Twitter on Sunday.

Things snowballed from there and by the time Monday evening rolled around 247Sports had issued five more crystal ball predictions for Daniels to head down to College Station.

Daniels is slated to announce his commitment on August 1st and the top theory as to why it may not be the Sooners is centered on how he would be used. Rated as the #4 safety prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, Daniels sees himself remaining in the secondary. Oklahoma is reported to want to use him at linebacker and capitalize on his sideline-to-sideline speed.

I feel like the issue may be deeper than that but even it it wasn’t we’re not looking at a simple solution. The Sooners already have a commitment from Jordan Mukes who is similar in size to Daniels (6-4/192) and is slotted to play the coveted safety position that Daniels reportedly wants.

At the end of the day Daniels is going to settle on the place that he sees as the best fit for him. Like every other elite prep player he would like to see himself in the NFL and has in mind at what position he’d like to do that. Is it too late for the Sooners to get something worked out with him? Probably not, but they are up against the clock now.
