The Thunder has completed all three scrimmages at the bubble and finished with a record of 3-0. If that’s not exciting enough, there’s only 3 days left until the first real game on Saturday afternoon.
How can we talk about the 3 day countdown without mentioning Chris Paul? CP3 came in and rewrote the story for OKC this season. A team who had 0.2% chance to make the playoffs at the beginning of the season, now sits in the 5th seed in the West.
Chris Paul is heading towards the end of his career, so playing for a contender makes the most sense. However, when he was traded to OKC last summer, he embraced the role despite leaving a team who was in contention for a championship. CP3 could’ve expressed his frustration, or even demanded another trade. Instead, he took over this team and became the ultimate leader for the young group around him.
CP3 has not only proved to be a great leader, he has also proven his ability to still play the game at a high level. He has this ability to be quiet for so long, then explode out of nowhere when the team needs him the most. He has the perfect balance between being a facilitator, and knowing when he needs to score.
Averaging 17.7 points, 6.8 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game, Paul was selected as an All-Star in 2020. He has had some explosive games including a season high 31 points against the Spurs back in February.
If OKC plans to make a playoff run, it will be up to CP3 to lead the way. The talent is definitely there, but can he lead the young guys through the adversity that comes with the post-season? I guess we will find out starting this weekend.
