Spencer Rattler threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns in the first half as Oklahoma built a 14-point lead in the first 30 minutes of the 2020 edition of Bedlam Football.
The start wasn’t as smooth for Oklahoma State as they crumbled under the pressure of the moment, and the Sooner defense, in the opening moments allowing OU to get off to a three-touchdown advantage within the first nine minutes of the game.
Shaking off a rough start, freshman Shane Illingworth stepped in for what appeared to be a concussed Spencer Sanders and put O-State on the board with a touchdown strike to a wide open Logan Carter.
The defensive battle we had expected finally broke out in the third quarter with Oklahoma only coming close to scoring while also keeping the Cowboy offense in check. Gabe Brkic sailed wide on a 43-yard field goal attempt with 4:50 left in the third but the Sooners found pay dirt early in the fourth on a trick-play pass from Spencer Rattler to Jeremiah Hall to push the lead to 34-13.
Rattler connected with Theo Wease late in the fourth for his fourth touchdown pass of the game and second to Wease. The play came on a 4th and 4 and gave the Sooners the biggest lead of the night, and final score, at 41-13.
