Sooners Upset #9 West Virginia Behind Mo Gibson’s 29 Points

We had a healthy discussion a few weeks ago regarding whether Mo Gibson would become a new scoring option for the Sooners off the bench. After today there shouldn’t be much doubt in that regard.

Gibson scored 29 points off the bench to lead the Sooners to a 75-71 win over #9 West Virginia on Saturday. Gibson’s 29 points were a game high and he was one of three Oklahoma players to score in double figures. Austin Reaves scored 13 and De’Vion Harmon added 10 more to lead OU to the biggest win of the season.

The Sooners needed nearly every single one of their points to stave off a furious second half rally by West Virginia. After taking a 38-20 lead into the intermission, the Mountaineers outscored Oklahoma 51-37 over the final 20 minutes to set up a nail biter of a finish.

There’s not much time for Oklahoma to soak and enjoy the victory though. The Sooners travel to Waco, Texas on Wednesday to take on #2 Baylor.
