Sifting through the transfer portal, the Oklahoma Sooners landed several highly sought-after names. Despite numerous players remaining undecided at this point in time, 247 Sports ranked the top fifty transfers of the 2021 recruiting cycle. It just so happens that three of the top ten are headed to Norman.
The number of transfer listed inside the top fifty headed to Oklahoma could potentially grow in due time. All the way down at No. 49 sits the name “Big Kat” Bryant. A defensive end originally from the state of Georgia, Bryant opted to play college football at Auburn before entering the transfer portal. Surveying the land, only two crystal ball predictions have been cast — both in favor of the Sooners.
With the growing list of transfers headed in various directions, the rankings by 247 Sports may bring up a bit of a controversy. A 5-star prospect, Wanya Morris made an immediate impact as a freshman. The effort on the field earned the offensive lineman Freshman All-American Honors in 2019. With untapped potential, the budding star has possibly the highest ceiling of any name on the list.
That’s why it’s odd to see Morris listed below a former and now future teammate like runningback Eric Gray. There’s no denying that Oklahoma possesses a coach — Bill Bedenbough — with the ability to draw out the best of Morris. Coincidentally there is a starting spot also available on the offensive line. That’s not necessarily the case in the backfield as most expect Kennedy Brooks to start at runningback.
We’ll have to wait and see which of the two develops into the better player. But, for now it seems as though there’s more opportunity in the trenches. More importantly, Morris currently shoulders an NFL skill set that others fail to replicate.
