No hits, no runs, no walks, and four strikeouts. That’s what the final stat line read for Oklahoma’s pitchers in a 17-0 run-rule win over Sam Houston to close out the Courtyard Marriott Tournament in Norman. It was a combined perfect game from the circle shared by three hurlers.
Brooke Vestal drew her first start of the year in the circle and delivered a two-inning gem in which she retired all six batters that she faced and recorded one strikeout. She was relieved in the third inning by Alanna Thiede who produced the exact same stat line. Finally Olivia Rains closed out the perfect performance by fanning two of the the three batters she faced in the top of the fifth.
From the plate it was another barrage of home runs and offensive fire power as the Sooners racked up 17 runs in their four at bats. Tiare Jennings, Paige Knight, Jocelyn Alo, Grace Lyons, Mackenzie Donihoo, and Zaida Puni all went yard in the game as Oklahoma served up a total of six home runs.
Jennings and Alo each batted in three RBI and four other Sooner hitters knocked in two each. In all 12 Sooners registered a hit versus the Bearkats with five players recording multiple runs batted in. Oklahoma scored 13 runs in the third inning alone which is more runs than they scored in any one game in the entire tournament.
Alo’s three-run homer in the third was her 13th of the season and it extended her hitting streak to 31 consecutive games.
Oklahoma finished the weekend with 17 home runs in five games to bring their season total to an NCAA-best 61 and are outscoring opponents by a score of 217-18 in 2021.
The Sooners are back home again this week for a Wednesday night affair with UT-Arlington.
