Sooners Continue To Add On Defense As They Climb The Transfer Rankings

For the second time in as many day Oklahoma has added to its defensive secondary from the transfer portal. Following Sunday’s announcement that former Wyoming defensive back CJ Coldon had committed to OU, former Louisville cornerback Kani Walker announced his intentions to join Ted Roof’s defense as well.

Coldon recorded 67 tackles (49 solo) and 10 pass breakups for the Cowboys in 2021, making him a top transfer portal target for several schools this offseason. A fifth-year senior, with one year of eligibility remaining (and the possibility of a medical redshirt), he’s expected to immediately compete with Woodi Washington and DJ Graham for playing time.

Walker comes to Norman with a several years of eligibility remaining. A member or the Cardinals’ 2021 recruiting class, he saw action in just five games as a true freshman. The 6-2/194 former 3-star prospect looks to be a long-term solution for the Sooners at corner.

The Sooners were already ranked #7 in the 247Sports transfer rankings but following Coldon’s announcement on Sunday they bumped up to #4 and are on the heels of Arizona who is at #3.

OU is still in the mix for former USC quarterback Jaxson Dart, who has narrowed his decision down to the Sooners and Ole Miss. He’s expected to bring tight end Mike Trigg with him where ever he lands. Dart is the second highest ranked player currently in the transfer portal.
