At 11:52 PM Central a new college softball Queen of Swing was crowned. Jocelyn Alo surpassed Oklahoma Softball legend Lauren Chamberlain as college softball’s all-time home run leader. A two-run blast in the top of the sixth inning gave the Sooners a 9-0 lead over Hawaii but the game suddenly mattered a little less as the crowd in Rainbow Wahine Stadium gave a standing ovation in appreciation of the moment.
The home run was Alo’s eighth of the season as pitchers have largely pitched around her since she tied Chamberlain with her 95th home run against Texas State on February 20th. As the Sooners touched down in Alo’s home state of Hawaii the reigning National Player of the Year was batting .474 on the season with a team-high 20 runs scored and was second on the team with 21 RBI.
