Sunday was another loser for us! With the potential of a positive week hanging in the balance we dropped two of our three bets, paving the way for a net result of $-19.60 on a week that say us go 7-7 with our picks. Now, we’re looking for a bounce-back week and we’re starting with Seattle (50-59) at Minnesota (53-48).
Week | Record | Net |
July 17-24 | 7-7 | $-19.60 |
The Pitchers
Seattle is starting Luis Castillo (6-7, 3.04 ERA) on the mound tonight against the Twins. He’s picked up two wins over his last five starts and has combined for 32 strikeouts and an average of 2.4 earned runs per game.
Minnesota is answering with Kenta Maeda (2-5, 5.1 ERA) who also has two wins in his last five starts. He’s allowed an average of 1.6 earned runs over that span and has fanned a total of 36 batters.
The Lineups
Seattle’s offense is led by the three-headed monster of Teoscar Hernandez (16 home runs), J.P. Crawford (.258 batting average), and Eugenio Suarez (58 RBI). The Mariners have scored 23 runs over the last five games. Every batter in Seattle’s lineup, except for Cade Marlowe has had at least one at bat against Maeda but only three have recorded a hit, with Crawford and Suarez having multiple.
Minnesota’s home run leader (Byron Buxton) is on the DL. That takes 17 dingers out of the lineup for the Twins but they still have Carlos Correa (.232 average and 44 RBI) active. Christian Vasquez is the only player in Minnesota’s lineup who hasn’t faced Castillo. Three Minnesota batters have at least one hit off Castillo, with two of the recording multiple.
The Streaks
Minnesota comes into this series having just swept the White Sox and having won four of the last five games.
The Odds
Mariners -1.5
Mariners -110 on the ML
O/U 8
I feel like the wrong team is favored here. Minnesota is the home team and they’re riding a winning streak. They -175 against the spread which means they aren’t really that much of an underdog. This leads me to my best bet on this game, the money line. You can get Minnesota at -110 on the ML which is tied with the O/U for the best odds for this game. Speaking of the over/under, I got killed taking the under last week but I’m taking it again tonight.
