MLB Best Bet For July 25, 2023 | Pirates vs. Padres

We killed it on Monday! We finally hit the trifecta where we get all three of our bets correct. We also broke the curs of the under by finally correctly picking that as well. With yesterday’s wins, we recouped all of our losses from last week and are in the positive. We’ll go into Tuesday’s game at $23.89 in the positive.

Now we’re looking to ride a wave of momentum into today’s random game where the Pittsburgh Pirates officially become the most covered team in this feature. This is the third time that the Pirates (43-56) have come up for us. We’re 2-4 with our picks on games that feature the Pirates, so we’re going to tread cautiously here.

The Pitchers

This is a game that features a pair of pitchers with losing records on the season. Pittsburgh’s Rich Hill (7-9, 4.84 ERA) will be facing San Diego’s Blake Snell (6-8, 2.67 ERA). Hill actually beat San Diego on June 27th but that is his only win over his last five starts. He’s allowing an average of 3.8 earned runs over his last five and has 18 combined strikeouts.

Despite being just 6-8 on the season, Snell has a decent ERA. He’s collected two wins over his last five starts and is only allowing a measly 0.6 earned runs per game during that span, compared to 39 strikeouts.

The Lineups

Jack Suwinski and Andrew McCutchen continue to dominate Pittsburgh’s lineup. Suwinski leads the team in home runs (20) and RBI (51), while McCutchen paces the Pirates with a .266 batting average. The Pirates have crossed home plate 21 times over the last five games.

The Padres have a trio of offensive leaders with Manny Machado leading the team in home runs (19), Fernando Tatis Jr. leading in batting average (.284), and Juan Soto in RBIs (60). San Diego has scored 22 runs over the last five games.

The Streaks

Both teams enter this series having lost their last game. Pittsburgh has lost three of its last five games and San Diego has won three of its last five.

The Odds

Padres -1.5

Padres -280 on the ML

O/U 8.5

Once again, the money line is the worst bet here. At -280 you’re risking a lot, on a heavy favorite, for just a little reward. We finally scored our first win with the under on Monday night and although I am taking it again in this game, we should be aware that the last two games we’ve featured with the Pirates have exceeded the over at 8.5 and 9.5.

For me, the best bet here is the Padres at -1.5. They have the better lineup, the better pitcher, and they are playing at home. We’re getting
