What has been a mediocre week turned bad yesterday with our picks on the Padres and Diamondbacks. Who would have though that the two teams would combine to score five more runs than Arizona had scored over their last five games combined. We went 1-2 again on Friday, making our record for the week to be 8-7. That’s not good enough to be in the black, which is why we’re looking at a $-6.39 deficit on the week. We still have two days left on the week though, so that keeps the door of opportunity open for a turnaround. Hopefully we can get that started with Milwaukee (63-53) and the Chicago White Sox (47-70).
The Pitchers
Milwaukee’s Brandon Woodruff (1-1, 1.65 ERA) returned to the mound last week, after missing four months due to injury, to throw 85 pitches against the Pirates. He allowed just four hits in the five innings but also surrendered two solo home runs. Tonight will be just his fourth appearance of the season.
Chicago’s Jesse Scholtens (1-4, 3.06 ERA) hasn’t earned a win since June 25th. Over his last five games he’s allowed an average of just one earned run per game but three of those five were bullpen work. In his last two starts he’s allowed three earned runs while going six innings each time.
The Lineups
Willy Adames leads Milwaukee with 18 home runs while Christian Yelich leads the Brewers in batting average (.290) and RBI (64). No one in the Milwaukee lineup has recorded a hit against Scholtens. Milwaukee has scored 30 runs over the last five games.
Luis Robert Jr. leads the White Sox in home runs (31) and RBI (65) but is currently listed as day-to-day on the injury report. Andrew Benintendi has a team best .272 batting average for Chicago. Four players in the Whit Sox lineup have recorded at least one hit off of Woodruff. Three others, including Benintendi, are 0-3 against him. Chicago has plated 26 runs in the last five games.
The Streaks
Milwaukee has won two games in a row, and three of the last four, while Chicago has two of the last three, including Friday’s series opener with the Brewers.
The Odds
Brewers -1.5
Brewers -165 on the moneyline
O/U 8
If we’re going to turn things around then it has to start tonight. If you’ve been following these posts then you know that I’m a sucker for the home dogs. I like the White Sox at +1.5 but I like the Brewers on the moneyline. The biggie here is the over/under, which I have been absolutely atrocious at. The under is at +100 which makes it a bit of a longshot but I’m once again liking the under, so…here we are.
