Betting against the Braves is a dangerous thing to do. We learned that the hard way yesterday by going 0-3 on the Atlanta/Philadelphia game. We had the Phillies at +1.5 and on the moneyline. We took the over (9) as well, and ultimately ended up taking three losses. We’re still a little bit ahead on the week, though. Hopefully we’ve got our bad juju out of the way and can build on our 5-4 record. Here’s my take on Arizona (76-71) at the New York Mets (67-87).
The Pitchers
Merrill Kelly (11-6, 3.16 ERA) has led Arizona to wins in back-to-back starts, and has won in four of his last five appearances. He’s holding opponents to an earned run average of 2.40 earned runs per game during that stretch.
Kodai Senga (10-7, 3.07) has been solid for the Mets this season. The right-hander is coming off a loss to Minnesota, though, but has led New York to victory in three of his last five starts. He’s allowing an average of just 1.80 earned runs per game over his last five outings.
The Lineups
Christian Walker is pacing the Diamondbacks with 30 home runs and 91 RBI, while Corbin Carroll has a team-best .279 batting average. Arizona has scored just 14 runs over the last five games.
For the Mets it’s Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil who power the offense. Alonso has blasted 44 home runs, and plated 108 RBI, while McNeil is batting .266 on the season. The Mets have scored 23 runs over the last five games.
The Streaks
After dropping the series opener with the Diamondbacks, the Mets have won the last two and are looking to secure the series this evening. New York has won three of it’s last five game. Arizona has now lost two in a row and three of its last five.
The Odds

Mets -120 on the moneyline

I think this is going to be a low scoring affair and I believe that benefits Arizona in terms of chasing the points. I’ve got New York to win, Arizona at +1.5, and we’re going with the under.
